The Office for Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOGenetically Modified Organism  Office) is responsible for the administrative and technical-scientific implementation of permit granting on the grounds of the GMO Decree and for supporting the policies named therein.

In practice this means that, among other things, the GMO Office processes permit applications for restricted use and introduction into the environment (this includes gene therapy research). The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment is responsible for making decisions regarding permit applications.
